Murals
A growing number of clients have commissioned Bruce to create beautiful, large, sea-scape murals to hang on walls inside their
homes or next to the garden. Each piece is unique. Each one inspired.
If you know where Bruce lives, you understand this inspiration. The ocean is a stone’s throw from his house. Clay is a favourite west-coast medium. It evokes the natural shapes of water meeting land.
Eclectic and interesting textures such as sand are added to the pieces. The shapes look and feel like kelp, barnacles, worm holes, driftwood and other discoveries you’d find walking on the beach. Their look warms your space and provides a remarkable focal point.
Here’s how it’s done. You’ll consult with Bruce throughout the process:
- Meeting with collector and viewing the space
- Creating a design in charcoal
- Making the initial mural in one piece of clay, possibly incorporating other elements such as glass
- Showing the initial design in wet clay to the collectors (no rejects so far!)
- Cutting the mural into numbered tiles, applying glazes, firing
- Installing final mural in the space
Bruce Vallance’s murals can be seen in major hotels and private homes on the west coast. Murals are created for specific locations by request. Look at the samples and see how they inspire you.
